About the MGSA

Founded in 2015 by Kevin Nowland and Evan Nash, the MGSA serves as the community-building social organization for mathematics graduate students at Ohio State, as well as a support group for the mathematics graduate student community here. We work in conjunction with the Department of Mathematics to improve the graduate student experience at Ohio State.

We aim to foster a sense of community amongst mathematics graduate students by organizing social gatherings and a variety of academic and professional development programming. We provide graduate students in the Department of Mathematics the opportunity to interact with each other and present their work to the members and other interested students as well as provide support and encouragement to all mathematics graduate students.

Our most regularly-scheduled event is our lecture series (Mathematical Research Lectures presented by the MGSA), which serves as a graduate seminar for the math department. Speakers come primarily from within the department, but also have included students of statistics, physics, and other fields intertwined with mathematics. We highly encourage all to attend (we provide pizza and drinks!), as well as to speak during their time at Ohio State.
